Viva was born in Corsicana, TX on February 7th, 1935 to Louis and Callie Garcia. She met George Gray while working at a Vi’s Restaurant, and they married in 1972. George and Viva shared a traveling life together as she frequently accompanied him on his truck driving routes until his passing in 1990. Viva was a skilled seamstress, a talent she applied both professionally and—most importantly—as a grandmother, creating countless Halloween costumes and other handmade items throughout the years.
During her 90 years, Viva embodied a strong love of family, resilience, and strength. These qualities defined how she approached being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She happily embraced the title of "Granny" and cherished being a grandmother to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, serving as both a source of unconditional love and a fierce advocate throughout their lives.
Her love for her family continues through generations in the meaningful and unique relationships she cultivated with her children, grandchildren, and beyond.
Viva was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Callie Garcia; husband George W. Gray; and daughter Tammy Suzanne.
She is survived by her children son Randall Roberts and wife Charlotte Roberts, son Tony Roberts and wife Lydia Roberts, daughter Lisa Gilbert and husband David Gilbert, and son Timothy Dickerson; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and numerous friends and extended family.
The family would also like to thank Amanda, the Hospice care team, and the nurses and staff at The Lodge in Saginaw, TX for their care and support.
Viva’s grandsons will be serving as pallbearers: Stephen Collins, Robert D. Roberts, Ryan Roberts, David D. Gilbert, Logan Dostie, and Robert M. Gilbert.
