Patsy Anderson Cooney, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home on March 5, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. She was born on May 3, 1931, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Lucille Simmons Anderson and Henry Anderson.
Patsy was the youngest of three daughters born during the Great Depression. Despite the hardships of the time, she experienced a childhood rich in generosity and compassion, as her family was known for their benevolence and willingness to help neighbors whenever possible. Raised by a schoolteacher, Patsy developed a lifelong love of reading and learning.
She met her husband, Martin R. Cooney, while working together at Convair. Their careers later continued with General Dynamics, now known as Lockheed Martin. Martin, a servicemember of the United States Air Force and the Signal Corps, preceded her in death on July 18, 2007. Together they built a life marked by innovation, partnership, and curiosity.
Patsy was deeply creative and musically inclined. She enjoyed playing the violin, piano and ukulele. She expressed her artistic talents through painting, crochet, knitting, needlework, and sewing clothing. A lifelong learner, she became a self-taught bookkeeper and despite no formal training, designed and programmed a relational database to manage their business financial needs. The Cooney’s business flourished during the pioneering years through their innovative use of computer technology.
In her free time, Patsy especially enjoyed shopping and spending time pursuing her many creative interests.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin R. Cooney; her daughter, Calista A. Cooney; and her two sisters, Jacel and Macie.
Patsy is survived by her loving family, including her son and daughter, one daughter-in-law, one sister-in-law, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild on the way, and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Her long life was marked by creativity, curiosity, and devotion to family. She will be remembered for her talents, her kindness, and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
