LaVerna Lou Vaden (1936–2026), age 89, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026. Born October 2, 1936, in Lowe, Kansas, to Vern and Mildred Sanborn, she was the eldest of seven siblings. In 1960, she married Clayton Leon Vaden of Arkansas City, Kansas. Together, they raised four children: Debra (Dave) Humphreys of Fort Worth, TX; Connie Banister of Stuart, OK; Bill (Melanie) Vaden of Glen Rose, TX; and Pam (Mike) Dunn of Tolar, TX. She was affectionately known as Nana and Nanny to her 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, and also welcomed Eric Reynolds as family.
She is survived by her sister, Melva (Tony) Conrad of Corpus Christi, TX, and her brother, Russell (Beverly) Sanborn of Ponca City, OK. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Vaden; grandson, Chase Vaden; and brothers Donnie, Ronnie, Pete, and Tommy.
A funeral service will be held at Living Word Community Church, 3001 Bewley Street, Haltom City, TX, on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with special music by her son-in-law, Mike Dunn.
LaVerna was a devoted mother and grandmother, spending many years as a homemaker and later working alongside her son in the family business before retiring. Her interests included reading, baking, and caring for her fur baby, Princess. She cherished her lifelong friendship with Carol Perkins and valued the companionship of neighbors Betty Dunn and Tommy Smith.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and her legacy of love, kindness and devotion will never be forgotten.
