Jewelene “Jewel” (Atkinson) Bardin

March 31, 1943 — July 9, 2022

Jewelene “Jewel” (Atkinson) Bardin March 31, 1943 – July 9, 2022   Jewel, aged 79, a retired retail associate lived in the Fort Worth, Texas area her entire life, and transitioned to her heavenly home with Jesus on Saturday, July 9, 2022. She will always be remembered as a loving, hardworking, and devoted child of God, daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, “Nanny,” and friend. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Robert W. and Mattie (Altizer) Atkinson. She grew up with her ten brothers and sisters in the modest family home off Long Avenue on NW 23rd Street near Fort Worth’s north side. At age 16 she married the love of her life, Jerry Dean Bardin, on December 19, 1959. She made a life with him in Watauga, Texas raising their three precious girls, Sherry, Laurie, and Deanna while working various jobs in retail sales throughout her life. It is said she thought her grandchildren and great-grandchildren walked on water and nobody ever messed with any of her “kids.” Jewel grew up in the Church of Christ and loved Jesus from childhood her whole lifelong. She served as a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Watauga, Texas for many years singing in the choir, teaching children’s Sunday school classes and she was a great encouragement and caregiver to many in times of loss or need. Her later years were spent among the members of Harvest Baptist Church in Keller, Texas where she attended with her daughters, Laurie, and Deanna, along with her son-in-law, Jeff, and Laurie’s children from time to time. She, her sisters, and brothers had a deep and lasting family bond that has been both a comfort and a constant in her life right up to the days of hospice these last few weeks before she passed away. Jewel loved attending church, collecting cardinals and strawberries, sewing, crafting, and spending time celebrating her family. In her later years, she could be found most Saturdays spending time with her sisters, Clara and Sandra, brother-in-law Ted, and their brother, Sammy and sister-in-law, Laura.

Her children, nieces, and nephews along with most of her siblings carry fond memories of spending every Christmas holiday together at Jewel’s home through the late 90s. Family favorites always served on the table in potluck style, and family members filling every room of the house while the men folk watched sports in the living room.

She took care of both her mother, and later her mother-in-law as they aged in life, and her mother-in-law, “Grandmommy,” lived with her and Jerry until she passed away in 2005.
