Eugene Lewis Gould

February 2, 1963 — September 13, 2023

Fort Worth, Texas

Eugene “Gene” Lewis Gould was born on February 2, 1963 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born the fourth and last-born son to the late Elizabeth Hoyle Gould and Edward Lee Gould. He has a very close relationship to his paternal grandmother, Obedience Sutton who spoiled him rotten since he was the baby boy of the family. He remained very close to her until her passing in 1983.

Eugene attended school in Fort Worth and graduated from Pascal High School in 1981. Like his siblings, Gene was an extremely hard worker and was employed by Dickies for almost 20 years until he lost his eyesight due to a series of strokes in 2002. He was a fighter and endured a mound of health issues including several heart attacks, losing both kidneys due to cancer that resulted in the need for dialysis for the rest of his life. Gene lived with his father until his dad’s health started to decline and then was cared for by his brother, Elliot and his wife, Angela for the remainder of his life. He lived with his health complications with dignity and without many complaints.

Eugene never met a stranger and like his father, he could charm any woman that crossed his path. He was a loyal and dependable man who word was his bond. He was definitely a no-nonsense type of man who was not going to repeat himself more than twice. Although he was not a confrontational man, he never backed down from a fight. Eugene would warn you that he was about to turn green…and one didn’t like it once he turned green!

He loved being a father and loved being a grandfather even more. He accepted Christ as his Savior in 2013 and was a regular member of Outcry in the Barrio located in South Dallas until his health no longer could support his attendance. Despite his health conditions, Eugene loved to praise and worship the Lord and enjoyed telling anyone with ears his testimony of the goodness of God! He truly was a soldier in God’s Army.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Hoyle Gould (1983); father, Edward Lee Gould (2014); paternal grandmother, Obedience Sutton (2006); nephew, Sheldon Gould (1990); nephew, Xavier Mitchner (2007); former partner and mother of his daughter, Sharon McIver (2002); and dear friend, MaryAnn Woodard (2022).

Eugene is survived by his beloved daughter, Elizabeth Nicole Gould; his precious grandchildren: Semaj Dontavious Gould, Xavier Lamont-Marquise Blots-Gould, Bre’Asija Unique Campbell, Sha’Niya Jonigue Perry, and Ny’Leyah Diana Rose Howard. He is also survived by his three older brothers, Edward Gould, Jr. and wife, Jamesina, Elmer Gould, and Elliot Gould and wife, Angela; and one sister and his favorite and only babysitter, Tamara Pittman; his handsome nephews, Brandon (Alexandria) Gould, Stephon Hambrick, Eliah Mitchner; niece, Sativa (Chad) Moore; grandniece, Amiah Hambrick; grandnephews, Harrison Gould, Micah Moore, and Josiah Hambrick. He is also survived by a host of cousins, too many to name, but loved beyond imagination all the same. Along with his lifelong childhood friends that he loved so dearly such as Mozelle Zaughn, Dudley Woodard, Lisa McCann and Dr. Larry Pruitt.
