Declan Karl Shannon

December 7, 2025 – May 31, 2026

With broken hearts and immeasurable love, we announce the passing of our baby boy, Declan Karl Shannon, who entered the arms of Jesus on May 31, 2026 at the age of 5 months.

Declan was born December 7, 2025 in Grapevine, Texas and was the cherished son of Mariah and Karl Shannon of Justin, Texas.

Though Declan’s time on earth was far too brief, he filled our hearts daily with joy and wonder. He was a sweet little boy with a bright spirit and curious mind. Always eager to learn, he was only days, or perhaps even hours, away from mastering his crawl and had recently discovered the excitement of maneuvering his walker. Every new accomplishment was met with excitement and proud smiles from those who loved him.

Declan formed a special bond with his soft, plush tiger affectionately named “Marler” and was fascinated by his faithful canine buddy, Bodhi. He delighted in various music era’s seemingly born with an appreciation for sounds from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s as well as contemporary Christian music. Yet among all the songs he heard, there was one particular song that held a special place in his heart: I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe. No melody comforted him or lulled him to sleep quite like this song.

Surrounded by the love of his parents and grandparents, Declan was encouraged to explore, learn, and grow. Declan enjoyed watching brief episodes of Bluey and his favorite, Blue’s Clues, bringing smiles to those who watched alongside him.

Declan leaves behind his devoted parents, Mariah and Karl Shannon; his loving grandparents, Junior and Jody Monkman of Bloomington, Illinois, and Michael and Janet Shannon of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; his great grandmother, Norma Staton of Bloomington, Illinois; his uncle and aunt, Cody and Emilee Monkman of Clinton, Illinois and their children, Zion, Malachi, and Creed; and his aunt and uncle Jessica and Justin Wright and their son, Jordan of Fort Worth, Texas.

Declan was preceded in death by his baby cousin, Shiloh Monkman, who now welcomes him to Heaven with love.

Although Declan’s tiny hands touched this world for only a short while, the imprint he leaves on our hearts is eternal. His smiles, gentle spirit, and the comfort of his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service celebrating Declan’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026 at The Well Community Church in Argyle, Texas. There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas. Out of respect for the family’s desire for a more intimate time of remembrance, graveside services will commence following funeral services and will be reserved for the immediate family members and invited guests.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Well Community Church. To our sweet Angel, thank you for the memories and joy you brought into our lives. Our love for you is everlasting. Hold tightly to Marler and let Jesus lead the way. Until we meet again, you will remain forever in our hearts. We love you “Bowie.”

* Declan was dedicated to Christ at The Well Christian Church by his parents on May 3, 2026.
