He went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2019. He was known to his customers as the Big Dog, and this was the running joke with everyone who graced Pet Haven, one of his favorite sayings was: “This is not McDonald’s or Burger King, so you Don’t Get a Break Today or You Can’t Have It Your Way, because I am the Big Dog around here.”
He was born on July 4, 1958, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. His parents were Mary and Juan Tamez, both deceased. David was the oldest of six children, Lori Jean Johnson, Lisa Maria Miranda and Husband Freddy, Xavier and wife Judy, Juan and wife Terry, and Jamie and wife Robbie.

He worked in security for over 20 years, where he was a branch manager and site supervisor. He also, was a licensed real estate agent, and he also, worked in the oil field & did highway construction, as well as working in the food industry.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Watauga, where he served in AWANA's club and the Good News Club, spreading the word of Christ to young minds. He also, was a coach for Upward Basketball and Upward Flag Football, teaching great sportsmanship, ethics, and Christ to his young players.
David was a real inspiration to everyone that he met and the young lives he helped mold. He was a caring Christian & no matter how bad he was feeling from his illness he was always upbeat, positive, and gave the glory to the Lord. He would uplift people with his positive attitude, caring ways, his funny nature, and he was always ready to listen to a person and to pray with them at any given time, but most importantly he never blamed God for his health problems and he always encouraged his staff, family, customers, and dear friends.
Even though the Lord choose to take him home early, his life was a testament to God. He loved the Lord and his customers both human and four legged. He always tried to make everyone laugh and smile. He was the heartbeat of Pet Haven, will be greatly missed by all of us and your pets as well.
David’s favorite bible verse was: John 11:23-25 New King James Version (NKJV)
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
