Our precious mother, Daisy Eileen “Naneen” Graves, returned to her creator on March 17, 2026, at the age of 89. She joins many of the beloved including her father Clyde, mother Beulah, two brothers, Clyde Jr. and Wayne, son-in-law Patrick, and soulmate Bill.
Born February 18, 1937, in Dalhart, Texas and raised by a loving, God-fearing, family during the Depression and Dust Bowl; she grew to be a true pioneer woman who became known for her virtues. These made her frugal, reworking leftovers into feasts, fruit into canned jelly, and old jeans into fancy pants or warm blankets.
In 1955, at the age of 18, Eileen abandoned a promising singing career to marry her high school sweetheart, Billie “Bill” Graves. Together they built a family of eight that glorified God. Their trust in Him made them eager to help others. Following Bill’s liver failure diagnosis, they used herbs to reclaim his health and shared what they learned across the nation. She was a healer whose tools were compassion, herbs, love, and cookies.
Eileen was a gardener who grew more than she ate and raised more children than she bore. As a grandmother, Naneen’s eyes never stopped sparkling as her dry wit took us by surprise, eliciting rib-cracking laughter. Leading by example, she taught us to be kind, loving, and to keep moving forward regardless of the adversity. No challenge was too great for Eileen as she knew God was in control, a fact she exemplified when Bill passed away in 2005. Selflessly, she used her remarkable gift for encouragement to listen and uplift those around her, even as her heart beat brokenly. Throughout the hardships of life, she reminded her family that sometimes the rain falling on us makes a rainbow in someone else’s life, reminding them of God’s love. This belief exemplified her ability to gently reframe the ugly caterpillar of adversity into the butterfly of hope.
Her passing leaves the world dimer, but her legacy of little lights will brighten the world through our memories of her. Like placing the last dollars she had in the collection plate, saying, “God will provide.” Teaching her children to wave at others when the broken horn blared during every right turn. Or during her final days, thanking the nurses and saying that she loved them. Such moments are abundant in a life so full of precious moments it is impossible to share them all. Her quiet dignity, generosity, and joyfulness made her a shining example of a godly woman.
A cherished friend.
A delightful mother.
A treasured Naneen.
She will be missed until all of God’s singers get home.
