Charles Wayne Mayes (Charlie) (Papoo)

(06-02-1956 – 02-08-2024)

Charles Wayne Mayes, born June 2, 1956 passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born June 2, 1956 to Wilma and Dalton Wayne Mayes in Fort Worth, Texas. He went to school in Haltom City, and graduated from Haltom High School. After graduation he got involved in coaching a little league girls softball team and his team did great.

Charles worked as a carpenter for over 12 years framing houses. He was a great carpenter. He could build anything; he helped remodel several families and friend’s houses through the years. He could not only build things; he was a man of many talents. Charles could do electrical repairs, as well as plumbing.

He worked at Blue Bonnet Supply in Keller, TX when it opened, until it closed down, and he was the main delivery driver for the company. After it closed down, he worked for his sister’s company (Simba Industries) in Grapevine, TX as a delivery driver/salesman for the company until he retired in 2022 after his heart attack.

His favorite hobbies were sports and fishing. He loved to watch all sports, and he could name all the players from just about every team. He loved bass fishing, and had his own bass boat at one time. He and his fishing buddy would go to Lake Fork where he caught his 10 lb bass and in the summer, we will go to spread his ashes at the spot he caught large bass.

He met Betty Cole in 1987 when they both worked at Blue Bonnet Supply in Keller, TX. They were later married on February 21, 1998.

Charles is survived by his wife, Betty Sue of almost 26 years; his stepsons, John Cole, Anthony Cole, and Jeremy Cole; his grandsons, Chaz Cole, Orion Cole, Holdan Cole, Ely Cole, Collin Cole, Connor Cole and Dylan Cole; his granddaughter, Paris Cole, Hollyn Cole, and Kiera Cole; his great-grandsons, Abram Creamer, Ayden LaClair; and great-granddaughters, Ramona Baum and Scarlet Rosales; his sisters, Donna Dromgoole,  Vickie Kasten and brother-in-law Bill; and many nieces , nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilma and Dalton Wayne Mayes; daughter-in-law, Meagan Cole.

Charles will be forever remembered by his grandkids who called him “Papoo.” He loved his family and his friends. He was a quiet man with a heart of gold. He did not just live his life, he lived a life that counted.
