Carolyn Sue Holton Ethridge-Matteson returned home to her Heavenly Father on October 30, 2025. Carolyn was born on March 4, 1950, in Camden, Arkansas, to Aaron Holton Sr. and Amy Beard and was the youngest of seven siblings.
Carolyn lived most of her younger years in Arkansas, except for brief times when her father’s work required the family to live on a Navajo Reservation in New Mexico and in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later settled back in Arkansas and lived in Eagle Mills, where she attended and graduated from Bearden High School in 1968.
She met her first husband, Carlton Ethridge Jr., in 1965 while Carlton was working at a local grocery store. During her senior year of high school, she married Carlton on December 1, 1967, in Arkansas. Eleven months later, they welcomed their first and only son, Mark, into the family. They later moved to Minnesota, where they adopted their daughter, Sabina.
Carolyn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to Carlton and their family in 1990 in the Provo Utah Temple.
After Carlton passed in 2021, Carolyn was blessed to find love again with Larry Matteson, whom she married on April 30, 2022, in Texas. They were living in Fort Worth, Texas, at the time of her passing.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Matteson; her children, Mark (Lynette) Ethridge and Sabina (Phillip) Burt; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Scott (Jamie) Matteson, Micah Matteson, Ammie (Chris) Walker, Timothy Matteson, Wendy (Grant) Gale, Sandra (David) Bauman, Amanda (Brandon) Hess, Ryan Matteson; and twenty-eight step-grandchildren.
Carolyn loved life and her family. When her health permitted, she enjoyed doing family genealogy and connecting with long-lost cousins.
In her later years, she endured much pain, and it was difficult for her family to see her go through it all without many answers as to why. Yet, with the comforting knowledge that families can be together forever, her loved ones find peace knowing she is now free from pain and reunited with Carlton, her parents, siblings, and many more loved ones she cherished throughout her lifetime.
She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held for Carolyn on November 22, 2025 from 12-2pm at 2151 Green Oaks Rd., Fort Worth Texas.
