Carolyn Ruth (Adair) Dunn was born on May 15, 1939 in Austin, Texas to the late Irene Estelle (Bennett) Adair and Thomas Oscar Adair. She passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2025 in Hurst, Texas at the age of 86.
After spending her first few years in Austin, her parents moved the family to Fort Worth, Texas due to her asthma. She graduated from the original Birdville High School in 1957 and married Garrey Charldene Dunn that October. She started her career doing clerical work and took programming classes at night while raising three children and working full-time. She retired as a programmer from Bell Helicopter in Hurst, Texas.
When soccer first started catching on in the early 70’s, she enjoyed playing and coaching her children’s teams. She loved to sing and had a beautiful alto voice. She was a member of the church choir at Birdville Baptist Church and frequently sang as a part of a duet or trio. She also played piano and later in life would play and sing duets with her husband in various Sunday School classes. In addition, she taught Sunday School in the “Bethany Class,” which consisted of the older ladies of the church who had nowhere else to promote. She loved working with these ladies, and her Bible contained pages with names and addresses of those she had kept up with.
Additionally, she was an avid handcrafter and especially loved tatting, which she learned from her grandmother as a child. She was so skilled that she won multiple ribbons at the annual State Fair of Texas, including Best in Show in her category for a full-sized vest made entirely of tatting. She shared this love for tatting by teaching tatting classes at local colleges.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of over 67 years, Garrey C. Dunn, who passed away earlier this year on January 17, 2025.
Carolyn is survived by her son Garrey C. “Buddy” Dunn, Jr. and wife, Melanie, of Garland; son Matthew Dunn and wife, Debra, of Bridgeport; daughter Cassandra Ferrell of Hurst; sister Laura Hunter and husband, Charles, of North Richland Hills; brother Tim Adair and wife, Delores, of Palestine; grandchildren Bethany Dunn, Jarrod Ferrell, Garrey Michael Ferrell, Chad Moore, and Casey Kolkman and husband, Brandon; great-grandchildren Cyler, Jaci, Aubrey, Lily, Dax, Knox, and Austin; sister-in-law Ruby Dunn of Desoto; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of church family and friends.
